Amnesia: The Dark Descent

Amnesia: The Dark Descent
So, I'm something of a gamer, right? It's not like I am particularly hardcore and involved in the community (other than the gamer fanfiction community XD), but I do like my RPGs. Recently, I decided to try something different and looked for a genre that would suit my tastes. I am not into car chases, so no Need for Speed and the like for me, I am not particularly fond of pure First Person Shooters - the last one I played and liked was Blood 2 all the way back in 1999. And I like fantasy. Given all that, I decided that maybe, just maybe, Survival Horror would be a good idea. So, do I go and get something like the latest Resident Evil or Silent Hill? NOOOOO.

The shallow person that I am, I get into a video game store and browse around the titles in the Survival Horror shell, then reach a pretty box showing a barely lit dungeon with a pretty red rose on the stone floor on its front cover. "Oooh" I think. "Pretty. And romantic. Looks good, I'm buying it." Did I mention I'm shallow?

So, I come home, install the thing, figure out the settings and begin to play. About an hour passes.

...

OMG WTF DID I JUST BUY THIS IS UNBELIEVABLY SCARY!!!?!! *HIDES IN A CORNER AND WHIMPERS* T_T

Turns out I bought the scariest video game made in recent history, at least according to ALL people who reviewed it. Well, at least that means I am not being a wuss due to having no experience in the genre.

My character, Daniel, spends most of his time gibbering in a dark corner, hiding from the monsters that want to tear him apart, and I spend my time gibbering behind my screen in sheer terror as well. I can't even play this thing for more than an hour or so. At some point today one of these creatures suddenly burst from the darkness and I SCREAMED like a lil' boy, causing my dog and my mother to come barreling in my room thinking something was wrong with me. Cue awkwardness and me trying to explain that no, I totally didn't get scared by a frickin video game to the point of shrieking like a loon. Nope, totally didn't happen.

T_T I both want to play and finish this thing and I am too terrified of it at the same time. I think I'll give it a few days of rest, play some Dragon Age, have graphic gay sex with pretty elves, then go back to it again. I think. I hope.

comments
